If you’re unpairing Bluetooth input devices from a desktop computer such as an iMac, Mac mini, or Mac Pro, you must plug in a USB keyboard and mouse to complete the remaining steps in this article.

Erasing your disk: For most reasons to erase, including when reformatting a disk or selling, giving away or trading in your Mac, you should erase your entire disk.
Erasing a volume on your disk: In other cases, such as when your disk contains multiple volumes (or partitions) and you don’t want to erase them all, you can erase specific volumes on the disk.
Erasing a disk or volume permanently deletes all of its files. Before continuing, make sure that you have a backup of any files that you want to keep.How to erase your disk
*Start up from macOS Recovery. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities window and click Continue.
If you’re not erasing the disk your Mac started up from, you don’t need to start up from macOS Recovery. Just open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.

*Choose View > Show All Devices from the menu bar in Disk Utility. The sidebar now shows your disks (devices), and any containers and volumes within them. The disk your Mac started up from will be at the top of the list. In this example, Apple SSD is the startup disk:

*Select the disk that you want to erase. Can’t see your disk?
*Click Erase, then complete these items:
*Name: Type the name you want the disk to have after you have erased it.
*Format: Choose APFS or Mac OS Extended (Journalled). Disk Utility shows a compatible format by default.
*Scheme: Choose GUID Partition Map.
*Click Erase to start erasing your disk, and every container and volume within it. You may be asked to enter your Apple ID. Forgotten your Apple ID?
*When it’s finished, quit Disk Utility.

You can erase at any time, including in circumstances such as these:
*You want to permanently erase all the content from your Mac and restore it to factory settings. This is one of the final steps before selling, giving away or trading in your Mac.
*You’re changing the format of a disk, such as from a PC format (FAT, ExFAT or NTFS) to a Mac format (APFS or Mac OS Extended).
*You’ve received a message that your disk isn’t readable by this computer.
*You’re trying to resolve a disk issue that Disk Utility can’t repair.
*The macOS installer doesn’t see your disk or can’t install on it. For example, the installer might say that your disk isn’t formatted correctly, isn’t using a GUID partition scheme, contains a newer version of the operating system or can’t be used to start up your computer.

Disk Utility tries to detect the type of storage and show the appropriate format in the Format menu. If it can’t, it chooses Mac OS Extended, which works with all versions of macOS. If you want to change the format, answer these questions:

For years I had searched for a solution to a pretty common problematic process. I right-click something and choose Copy and before I get to paste that, I already want to copy something else. I’d get stuck trying to figure out where to put everything I want to save so that I can retrieve it for later use. Traditional copy and paste failed to evolve to the needs of the modern, multitasking computer user. So for the answer, I turned to a Mac app called Paste.
Paste creates a giant clipboard of items for you to browse or search through after you copy something, so you never have to limit yourself. It blends in beautifully with the Mac’s UI and most importantly, it works entirely behind the scenes. You barely have to change anything about your workflow.The Magic of Paste
Paste works by automatically saving everything you copy into a clipboard of its own, and I mean everything — text (formatted or unformatted), photos, videos, links, documents, even color codes. It intelligently recognizes the type of content you’re copying as well as which app you’re copying it from so it’s that much easier to find as items accumulate in your clipboard.
You barely have to change anything about your workflow.
You don’t need to click a special item in your control-click menu and you don’t need to use any special keyboard shortcut to copy. Just use your Mac like you normally would.
When you want to call up something from your massive clipboard to paste, just make one small change: press Command+Shift+V instead of the standard Command+V for paste. The new shortcut brings up Paste’s gorgeous UI from the bottom of the screen so you can pick something out to copy and paste. (This shortcut is modifiable in the app’s preferences.)
So let’s say I have a link, a photo and a description of some hotel getaway I want to send somebody in a message. Previously, I’d first have to copy the link, then paste that, then go back and copy the photo and paste that, and lastly do the same for description. It’s repetitive and a waste of time.
Enter Paste. Disc eject for mac. I can copy all three items — the link, the photo and the description — then in the message just press Command+Shift+V to see all three. I highlight them to copy and paste all at once and I’m done.
When trying to multitask, the standard method for copy and paste is often repetitive and a waste of time.
If I happen to copy more items in the meantime, I can use search to find the items by content or app. If all three were from Safari, I can type in “Safari” and they’ll be right in front of me along with the rest of my history in that app.
Paste’s capabilities don’t stop there though. In the recently released version 2.0, Paste added new pinboard collections. This means you can create folders for items you copy and move them into the appropriate pinboard to better organization. The app comes with one right off the beat: useful links.Mac Copy File Command
I’ve kept the useful links one and added a pinboard of my own: Read Later. Now, it’s my quick method for viewing articles on my Mac that I’ve been meaning to get to. I just copy the link and then move it from the main Paste archive into my custom pinboard.

Apple introduced a new filesystem in macOS High Sierra, so naturally you may be wondering how Carbon Copy Cloner deals with this and how this new change might affect your backups. You might even be wondering, ’What’s a filesystem?’, so we’ll start with that, and gradually move into more technical details.What’s a filesystem?
The file system is perhaps the most important piece of software on your Mac. It’s also one of the most transparent, at least when it’s working correctly. Every user and every application uses the file system. The file system keeps track of and organizes all of the files on the hard drive, and also determines which users and applications have access to those files. The file system also keeps track of how many files you have and how much space they consume. Every time you look for a file, open a file, move a file, save a file or delete a file, it’s the filesystem that is fulfilling that action.Why is Apple introducing a new filesystem?
Apple’s legacy file system, HFS+, has worked well for almost 20 years, and Apple has made consistent improvements to it over that time. For example, Apple added support for extended attributes, file system compression, file system journaling, and full-disk encryption. All of these new features were added to keep pace with new operating system features and to make the file system more reliable. But that file system was created initially for Mac OS 8, and was designed for platter-based hard drives. Storage technology has changed a lot over the last 20 years, and modifying HFS+ to keep pace with those changes has proven increasingly difficult. To meet the challenges of new OSes and new storage technology, Apple introduced the Apple File System, or ’APFS’ in High Sierra.When I upgrade my Mac to High Sierra (or later), will my startup disk be converted to APFS?
When you upgrade to macOS High Sierra, systems with all flash storage configurations are converted automatically. Systems with hard disk drives (HDD) and Fusion drives won’t be converted to APFS on macOS High Sierra. When you upgrade to Mojave, HDD and Fusion volumes are also converted to APFS. You can’t opt-out of the transition to APFS.If I first upgrade to High Sierra on an HDD, and then clone to an SSD, will the SSD be converted to APFS?
If you’re running macOS High Sierra or Mojave, then neither the HDD nor the SSD will be automatically converted to APFS. You can choose, however, to erase the SSD as APFS prior to cloning to it. Both APFS and HFS are valid destination formats when using Carbon Copy Cloner 5 on High Sierra and Mojave. When making a backup of a macOS Catalina system volume, CCC will automatically convert the destination volume from HFS+ to APFS, but only after your explicit approval of the action.If the OS upgrade converted my startup disk to APFS, what do I need to do to my backup disk? Do I have to erase it as APFS?
You don’t need to do anything at all to your backup disk after upgrading to macOS High Sierra or Mojave (and again, on macOS Catalina, CCC will automatically convert the destination to APFS, so you still don’t have to do anything to the destination volume). Having an HFS+ backup of an APFS-formatted High Sierra or Mojave startup volume is acceptable; that will function just fine for any future restores, even to an APFS-formatted volume. If your backup disk is an SSD, or if you were planning to erase the destination anyway, we do recommend that you erase it as APFS.

The two files will share storage on the disk for portions of the files that remain identical, but changes to either file will be written to different parts of the disk. APFS file cloning only works when you make copies of a file on the same volume (e.g. duplicate a file or folder in the Finder). CCC is typically copying files between volumes, so APFS cloning isn’t applicable for that kind of task.
The important take-away is that APFS file cloning can save you space on your startup disk, but CCC cloning can save your data if your source disk fails. They serve completely different purposes; APFS file cloning is not at all related to making backups.

Eject Dvd DiskI cant get snow leopard disc to eject or restart the computer from the old tiger running system.
I first tried to re-instal tiger 10.4.11 with a 10.4.8 disc (from my macbook pro)and it said it cant be installed on this computer. (imac)
I then tried installing snow leopard and got the same ’cant be installed on this computer’ message.
Since then iv only done a quick clean of the D drive (via the snow leopard disc) and now I cant get the disc out at all. It gives me no option to eject it and only gives me an option to restart the computer from the disc or through time machine, and not tiger (the original running system).
At this stage I only want to get the disc out and run the computer as it was.
But, I was thinking since I have a macbook pro running tiger 10.4.8 is there a way I can reinstal 10.4.8 from my macbook through time machine onto my descktop imac core 2 duo so that also runs a fresh copy of 10.4.8 and then I can update it to 10.4.11 via online download.
I dont know what to do but the purpose of the reinstal was to get my imac to detect my mobile internet usb stick it stopped detecting. I managed to get a full instal disc of snow leopard (not the update) and have the full instal disc from the Macbook Pro (10.4.8), im happy just to go back to the origanal Tiger if possible, but for now i really need this disc out so i can do some work on the imac.
